Surprisingly as I talk to potential Buyers and even Realtor's in the market place there isn't a whole lot of awareness of the true benefits of an Energy Star Home.  Here are three great reason's why you should buy an Energy Star Home. 1.  Your new Energy Star Home is built to exceed code.  The benefit is a better quality, inspected by a third party to insure that it meets Energy Star requirements. 2.  You'll be saving money in your utility bills.  Each home is rated for life to not exceed X amount of dollars per month in utility cost. 3.  You'll also be able to receive a discount from your electric company since you have purchased a home that is Energy Star. Finally your helping the environment. The Meadows has completed 7 Energy Star Homes.   This is the equivalent to eliminating emissions from 4 vehicles. Saving 18,000 lbs of coal Planting over 5 acres of trees Saving Homeowners over 3k on their utility bills...

Having already sold 3 Energy Star homes in 2010 in one neighborhood alone I believe it is incumbent upon any builder in today's market to seriously consider building an Energy Star home and I commend MD Chadwick for supporting this national energy saving initiative that is in turn supported by Progress Energy and other power companies across the state and nation through discounts to homeowners. In North Carolina the 5% savings can add up quickly. And as you have said in your post, it's not just the energy savings the homeowner will experience every month. It the quality of the home environment, the impact on the environment and lessening of the strain on the power companies to build new power plants and raise rates they charge all of us. So more power to you MD Chadwick.

Great blog, Energy star homes will bring a higher resale value as well. They are no longer the future, and all builders should be building energy star homes.

Good information Brian....As a lender here in the area I thought I would share one additional benefit I have noticed with the Energy Star ratings. Many appraisers contact us on Energy Star Homes to confirm the ratings prior to completing the appraisal. they sometiimes request the certification and actually use this rating when determinig the final value. Not only does your client get the utility savings but they also get more appraised value out of the home during a refinance or when you ultimately sell.
